Cloud Backup Release 1.1.0

Scheduled Restores and more

Posted by Fermin Silva on June 05, 2017

After a couple of patch releases, we are proud to announce our first minor release from 1.0.3 to 1.1.0, coming with big features requested by some of our clients.

Custom Scripts

Now you can run custom scripts or binaries before and after each backup and restore. This is useful to numerous things like taking out a slave from a load balancer before starting a backup, checking a server integrity before backing it up, checking that a restore was successful, etc.

See our help entry to see more about how it works and what can be done with it.

Customize Databases / Tables to backup

Now you can choose which databases and tables to dump instead of the whole database instance. Available for mysqldump, mysqlpump and mydumper. More coming soon!

Scheduled Restores

The biggest feature of the release, allows to schedule automatic restores either as soon as a backup finishes or in a timely fashion.

This is useful for two main things:

  1. Dumps for different environments

You can configure a restore to run every Sunday to restore a productive backup into a Canary or Staging environment, which your developers can use with real world data. Combined with Customs Scripts you can also obfuscate sensible data after the restore finishes.

  2. Testing that backups are valid

By dedicating a server solely to run restores, you can perform a restore as soon as a backup finishes. Combined with Customs Scripts, you can execute a couple of test queries to make sure your backup is valid, in case you need to restore it in the future in a productive server. Look for a symbol next to your backup and rest easy knowing it will work when you need it.
